I thank Paul Devereux for his criticisms of my review of Persinger’s ‘tectonic strain theory’. As for the earth lights theory in general, I totally agree with Devereux’s statement that “it is highly desirable that such an area be fully investigated”; the last sentence of my paper attests my willingness. I must however comment on Devereux’s criticisms.
There are a number of points in Magonia 24 I’d like to pass brief comments on. Michael Goss’s article was a delight. I would just point out that those shito-dama phenomena described as “roundish tadpole shaped” does bring dramatically to mind Kenneth Arnold’s description of his Cascade Mountains ‘fying saucers’ as taking on a ‘tadpole when crossing Goat Ridge; of the descriptions of the lines of “tadpole shaped lights” witnessed by hundreds of people before the 1957 Charnwood (Leicestershire) earthquake
Two things struck me about Magonia 11: the review of my Earthlights, naturally enough, I suppose, and the comments in the editorial bemoaning the state of British ufology. I hope I may be allowed to respond to John Harney’s review of Earthlights and use that to make a few comments on the editorial’s viewpoint. It is obvious that I’m biased in favour of my book, but even allowing for that it seems incredible that Mr Harney could produce such a negative, jaded and dismissive review of it.
